Now is the time by Micaela Álvarez

£17.00

Synopsis

After her father’s death, seventeen-year-old Jane De Mattos’ life seems to be falling apart. Suddenly the head of the family, Jane must deal with her mother's depression, the responsibilities of the farm, and caring for her two younger sisters, Clarisse and Emma.

In the small town where she lives, the tranquillity of rural life is threatened by absence and uncertainty.

In the midst of this struggle, the appearance of George Brown, an enigmatic young man, challenges Jane's resistance to depending on others. Her connection with him is intense and confusing, pushing her to face her own feelings as she tries to maintain control over her life and protect her family.

‘NOW’ is a story of love and resilience, of how our bonds with others can be both a challenge and a driving force, and of the search for balance between responsibility and the desire to be happy.

Biography

Micaela Álvarez is a writer with a degree in education. She lives in a small town called Capilla del Sauce, one of Florida’s departments in Uruguay.

After ‘hitting rock bottom’ in 2022, following the loss of her father when she was 17, she began writing her first book: NOW is the Time. During that year, she participated in various international writing competitions, including short stories. This experience helped her improve her technique, although she considers herself to still be learning.

She has been passionate about reading since she was a child.

In October 2023, she launched a virtual bookshop, CAP LIBROS, so that books could reach every corner of Uruguay. From there, in February 2024, she created the honorary project: ‘A journey through reading’. This is a multicultural initiative that promotes reading and artistic expression in different locations in the interior of the country. That same year, in November, she self-published her first novel, NOW is the Time, presenting it in February 2025 at the Uruguayan Embassy in Argentina. As a result, Micaela was invited to be part of the Uruguayan delegation of writers representing the country at FILBA (Buenos Aires International Book Fair), giving a talk on Uruguayan Youth Literature, alongside two other writers, supported by INET (National Institute of Letters) and the Uruguayan Chamber of Books.
